The singing of "psalms, hymns and spiritual songs" not only renders praise to God but provides both instruction and comfort for His people (Col. 3:16). Singing is an appropriate part of public worship and listening to hymns of the faith can provide courage and strength on a daily basis. Through the international outreach of the Baptist Bible Hour, the well-loved hymns of days gone by, as well as those still being written in our time, have been shared with people in many parts of the world. Some have spoken of being touched by the singing even before they received a clear insight into the gospel of God's sovereign grace.

The Old School Hymnal has become a standard for many grace believing churches. It is a collection of hymns and gospel songs that have been selected from a variety of sources but all with a message to exalt Christ and proclaim His glorious gospel. In recent years a supplement called Our Little Hymnal was released and the songs on this disc are from that book.

Singers from several states assembled at Cincinnati Primitive Baptist Church in July, 1997 to produce this recording. The group was directed by Sonny Lowrance, who has been actively involved in conducting singing schools among Primitive Baptists for many years. We count it a joy to share these hymns by recording and also over the Baptist Bible Hour radio broadcasts.
